Ayize Jama-Everett (Part 1)
The Challenge
Professor Ayize Jama-Everett contacted us because he was getting ready to find an agent for his latest book. He knew that having a solid author platform would be important in selling and later promoting his book.
Professor Jama-Everett had 5 books published but no real platform to speak of. He didn’t have a social media presence, nor a mailing list, and his website was outdated and not properly functioning. He was also getting ready to find an agent and shop around his next book and he understood that a platform would be very helpful to that, as well as to selling more books.
We worked with Professor Jama-Everett to set goals for his platform and executed a campaign consisting of the steps outlined below.
Revamping his author website
As you can see from the image below, Professor Ayize Jama-Everett’s old website was outdated and not mobile optimized. It lacked metadata and wasn’t showing up in search engines due to a lack of optimization.
To fix this, we first researched and found all of Professor Jama-Everett’s published writing, interviews, photos, videos, and personal appearances. His biography also needed to be rewritten, and we also wrote content for his website pages, media kit, newsletter, and more.
Afterward, we built a modern, mobile-optimized, content-rich, easy to read, stylish website with seven pages and four subpages for Professor Jama-Everett.
His Media Kit
Professor Jama-Everett didn’t have an existing media kit so we created one for him and added it to his website where agents and publishers, as well as members of the media, could download it.
His Mailing List
We set up a mailing list for him and installed a lead-capture pop-up on his website to help build his fanbase. His first newsletter, which we drafted, included special news like his award nominations and relevant information about upcoming events he’ll be attending.
We also set up a professional email for Professor Jama-Everett and added his book links to his signature.
His Social Media
Professor Jama-Everett did not have a social media presence. After discussing his options we decided to set up a Facebook author page, a Twitter account, and an Instagram account. We used his own name as his handle on these platforms and set realistic goals for each social network.
Below are some graphics, headers, and promotional imagery we created for him.
Work in Progress
Currently, we are working on building Professor Jama-Everett’s social media presence. Stay tuned for updates.
