Your publicist’s advice for TV interviews…
Congratulations to Dr. Guthrie P. Ramsey Jr., who was on Black America and whose episode is coming out on January 18th! He did an amazing job recording this yesterday, but more importantly, he followed my advice, which I am always thrilled to see clients do. I asked Dr. Ramsey to have someone take pictures of him on set, and his friend delivered, as you can see below.
And while normally I wouldn’t share a particular client’s interview as an example, I think Dr. Ramsey and his friend/photographer for the day Vincent, have done such a great job that I’d like everyone to see it.

But why is it important to take pictures of yourself when you’re on a television network’s set giving a live interview? And what kind of photos should you take?
Taking pictures of yourself while on set can be a great way to document your experience and share it with others.
First and foremost, taking photos can help you commemorate your experience and the details of the set long after the interview is over. It can be a great way to look back and reflect on your time on set, as well as to share your memories with friends and family on social media as Dr. Ramsey did below.

In addition to helping you remember the experience, photos can also be a great way to promote yourself and your work. As an author, sharing photos from your time on a television network’s set can help you build your brand and reach a wider audience. They can go on your website, in your author newsletter (or even in your publicist’s newsletter, if they’re good!), and you should consider sending them to your in-house publicist because they might want to share them with the sales team or anyone else.

There are a few different types of photos that can be taken on set. One option is to take a posed photo with the interviewer or other members of the production team. This can be a good way to capture the formal aspects of the interview process.
Another option is to take candid shots of the set or a picture of you while preparing for the interview.

These types of photos can give a more informal and relaxed feel and can provide a unique perspective on the experience.

– Photos with any cast or crew members you work with

It’s important to remember that you should always ask for permission before taking photos on a TV set, and be respectful of any rules or guidelines in place, for instance, Covid-related restrictions. With these considerations in mind, taking photos on set is a must—if you ask your publicist. 😉
Once again, congratulations to Dr. Ramsey, and thanks to Vincent. Beautifully done! The episode will air on January 18, 2023, on CUNY TV.
