Looking back at the slides now is mildly entertaining because the platforms have changed, the media landscape has changed, and several tactics I would emphasize today barely existed in the same form. The underlying problem is irritatingly durable. A very good literary event can still fail because the date was confirmed late, nobody took responsibility for local calendars, the partner organizations each assumed somebody else was emailing the list, or the audience could not work out where to park.
An unanswered pitch disappears quietly into an inbox; a badly attended event has chairs sitting there in public, where everybody can see them.
