We are very excited for client Professor Shonda Buchanan, who’s been busy giving interviews, doing readings, and as well as book signings. Despite the pandemic, Professor Buchanan has been in high demand as a poet/memoirist/writer/speaker/educator. Below are just some of the events she participated in lately.

During Black History Month and Women’s History Month, Professor Shonda Buchanan spoke at various venues about her memoir Black Indian.

She also led a five-week writing memoir workshop, a virtual roundtable discussion with May’d in Michigan Writers Series, a Black Indian Genealogy workshop where she explored the documents she used in her memoir to research her family history, and a virtual book reading with the Los Angeles Poet Society.

She talked about Black Indian which explores migration stories of Free People of Color communities, especially focusing on identity, ethnicity, landscape, and loss, on The Face of America.

Black Indian was a recipient of the Indie Book Awards and it was also added to several reading recommendation lists, including by Duende District, PBS News Hour, Pen America, and LWPB.
