Walter Mosley
I’ve been a fan of Walter Mosley since I first read Devil in a Blue Dress during my MFA program.
Not only is he one of the most versatile and admired writers in America, he is also one of the few crime fiction authors unapologetically exploring the subject of race in American.
He is the author of more than 50 critically acclaimed books, including the major bestselling mystery series featuring Easy Rawlins, my all-time favorite detective.
These are some of my favorite Walter Mosley quotes.
Did you know there was a Walter Mosley’s handprint in front of Vroman’s, in Pasadena?
As a long time fan of Walter’s writing, I’ve attended many of his events, bought most of his books, and have asked him to sign many times. There’s something special about seeing an author you admire speak and then asking him to sign your book. To me, having Walter Mosley do that is extra fun because of how funny and personable he’s always been.
And because of how much I admire him, it was my special honor to work on promoting and fundraising for an event honoring him.
UCR Writers Week 2020
First, he headlined UCR’s Writers Week (2/10/2020), where he was in conversation with Steph Cha and officially received the Annual LARB/UCR Lifetime Achievement Award.
The conversation energized all the attendees and I was thrilled to hear more about his projects in progress.
Of course I bought his latest:
LARB Luminary Dinner
I was honored to promote the LARB Luminary Dinner celebrating Walter Mosley’s Lifetime Achievement Award on February 22, 2020. The on-stage conversation was as great as it always is with him.
Here is Walter Mosley in conversation with Tom Lutz, Editor-in-Chief of the LA Review of Books.
The event was attended by LA literati.
Here I am with one of the most versatile writers and a friend of Walter’s, Gary Phillips.
With the wonderful Jervey Tervalon, founder of Litfest Pasadena
With our newest Coriolis client, author, professor, and historian, Jon Wiener
With Chairman of the Board of the LA Review of Books, Albert Litewka, who somehow always poses perfectly!
The books available at the event included Elements of Fiction, a wonderful writing guide and Trouble Is What I Do, one of Walter’s newest Leonid McGill books.
It was a wonderful opportunity to chat with Walter again and glean some insight from his writing process, and to get another signature from him. My collection keeps growing! 🙂
And now, onto reading his latest work.
